The only imperial Roman road across the Alps
Wonderful, panoramic and charming.
These are the most used adjectives by cyclists of every age and by the "Transalp" sport event; they all have run this road. From Resia the cycle track is smooth; slopes are few and aren't steep at all.
The landscape variety is astonishing: from the shady woods till spacious green meadows, from villages to cities (e.g. Glorenza/Glurns), from apple orchards till the thermal city of Merano. The guests covering the path from Merano till Resia have surely more time to enjoy the wonders of Val Venosta, also because some guests think that the inverted path is too fast.
Train and bicycle
May 5th 2005 is the first official day of the new Val Venosta train, which marked a new era for the local railway service.
After 5 years this train, characterized by bright colors, represents a successful model of sustainable mobility and it has become a "must" to go to work and for leisure time activities.
The Merano- Malles (Meran- Mals) railway line is an attraction itself. The attention to the details and the tradition- modernity symbiosis characterize the renewed stations along the railway. Twelve kinds of train convoys, a full barriers- free access, trains every hour or every 30 minutes, a capillary services of trains and buses, the "bikes & train" combination, the "Mobilcard". All these services didn't exist when in July 1906 the first railway locomotive left Meran/o to reach Malles/ Mals.
The Autonomous Province of Bolzano/ Bozen, after this railway adventurous past and after many years of neglect, has decided to re-open the Val Venosta railway line and to integrate it in a new model of mobility. Profit of the situation and discover South Tyrol by train!
